"Jamie Marks is dead" by Carter Smith (2014) Based on the book by Christopher Barzak's "One for Sorrow," mills mall "Jamie Marks is dead" is a gorgeous film sad, very sad. Reinforced by an excellent photograph of Darren Lew and a chilling soundtrack so beautiful François-Eudes Chanfrault, the film premiered at Sundance in 2014, not taking any prize, however. The filmmaker Carter Smith is a very famous fashion photographer, and debuted in cinema with entertaining horror film "The ruin" in 2008 "Jamie Marks is dead" is his second feature, and invests in the supernatural, the film ghosts, only mixed with drama and romance. The film tells the story of Jamie and Adam Marks, two teenagers who live in a little town called Youngstown, Ohio. Jamie regularly bullied at school. Adam witnesses, but nothing does. One day, Jamie is found dead beside a creek. Gracie, a teenage rocker, body is sue. She catches a romance with Adam and they both start to see the ghost of Jamie. From there, a friendship begins between Adam and Jamie, who tries to bring you into their world of the dead. Counting, it seems it's a silly movie about zombies. None of this: it is a beautiful drama about friendship, about lost youth, and about love. The young actors are great, and Noah Silver, who plays Jamir, looks like a post-adolescent version of Harry Potter. The film is all weather, with a dark, gothic atmosphere. The direction is safe, focusing on beautiful images. The surprise of the cast is on account of Liv Tyler, playing mature mother of two young teenagers. But as well, Liv Tyler has matured and we did not notice? The only drawback mills mall is pro account the duration of the film. Could have 20 minutes less, and the script could have eliminated one under-plot of another ghost, Frances. Had focused only on the relationship of Adam and Jamie, the filem would have yielded more. What is interesting mills mall is that the film does not seek to know who killed Jamie, and yes, working on the theme of friendship. A very interesting film and reinforces the value of American independent cinema. Rating: 8
